Education During The Pandemic
Cell phones or tablets are a necessity for children to continue their schooling. With only 14% of the population fully vaccinated and our families living in an area designated as a red zone, classes will continue to be delivered virtually. Homework is received from and delivered back to teachers via WhatsApp. The expense of acquiring a cell phone and the monthly cost of the internet is a significant hardship for our families who already struggle to get adequate food on a daily basis.
Cell phones cost $185 CAD and internet costs vary from $30 to $50 CAD per month. This is beyond the reach of many of our families. Parents want their children to receive an education that will provide an opportunity to escape the grinding poverty. What can they do when faced with a decision between that education and feeding the family?
